June 23 Cheap Joe'sHi you all... I have been away for awhile. Life stuff distracted me. I have been popping in ever now and then just to check on everyone. Just not in a writing mood.
Saturday, June 21, I went to Boone, NC. to the "Cheap Joe's Trade Show". I don't know if anyone is aware of the show. It is put on every year in June by Cheap Joe's Art Stuff. Thursday, Friday and Saturday there are art demos and workshops. Saturday is the only day of the trade show. There are reps of major art supply companies there. They drop the price on supplies anywhere from 25 to 75% off products. I bought a few things. A few art books, wc paper, pastel paper, some pastels, and a small workstation. I don't remember how many booths, I think about 45 but not sure.
It's like a 2 hr. drive but to me it is well worth it. Several artists did demos during the show. I loved it. It is like a high to be around art and other artists. If you would like to visit the website to view the store or see what the trade show was like, here is the site..... www.cheapjoes.com.
It puts me in a creative mood. I hope everyone had a good weekend and the week ahead goes great.
Take care all...see ya back here soon. xoxo
Pat May 09 Still here!Hi all....Surprise I'm still here, just had a lot on my plate lately. I haven't had much time to write or visit most of your spaces. I'm hoping to get back in the swing of things soon. Don't forget me, I haven't you all.
I hope everyone is doing well and having a great beginning to a beautiful Spring....Summer is just around the bend. wow the year is flying by, isn't it!
I took a few pics of flowers, mostly roses, and thought I'd share a few.
Take care all....much love to everyone.
Pat April 27 6 Quirks
6 Quirks about yours truly......hummmmmmmmm The rules for the tag are as follows: Link the person who tagged you Mention the rules in your blog Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them Leave a comment on each of the tagged bloggers blogs letting them know they've been tagged.
Jan tagged me...This is a hard one. I know I have them, lots I'm sure. I'm having a hard time getting started here. But I'll give it a go.
#1 quirk: I can't stand it when someone reads the newspaper before me and leaves it out of order and in pieces. I have to take the time to put it back together before I can start to read it.... #2 quirk: Most people think I am a fairly social person....but I'm not really. I would much rather be at home, away from almost everyone. #3 quirk: I absolutely hate it when people drop by without calling first. It is kinda funny 'cause, I usually let the answering machine catch the call. I'll pick up if I feel like talking. If they show up I may or may not answer the door. I don't have a problem with that. #4 quirk: If I go out to a friends or someplace and I see a picture is crooked. It drives me crazy if someone doesn't straighten it. If noone does, I will. I have to...it's my quirk-a-tive. #5 quirk: I have to watch TV in bed to wind down. That doesn't seem quirky. I watch shows like: Forensic Files, 48 Hours: Hard Evidence, Impact: Stories of Survival or something like those. No it doesn't give me bad dreams. I think this one is probably pretty quirky. lol I like to put the Food Channel on mostly. Now that keeps me awake. go figure. #6 quirk: I have a had a couple of accidents, bad experiences.....I won't wear articles of clothing I was wearing when they happened. I know the clothes didn't have anything to do with what occurred....it's a quirky thingy.
Woo Hoo....I did it. Can't believe I did it. Man that's hard. Ok, I'm suppose to Tag someone now, right. If you are reading this and haven't been Tagged......you've been tagged. Have fun..hahaha..I know how much fun I had....lol Good luck. =============================================
April 16 biggest loser AliI can't believe I'm still up and at the computer. So I figured why not write something. It's been a few days since I have. You know how it is, life stuff takes over and one must take care of business. Today has been a long day. I had pt in the morning, paid a couple of bills, went to wally world, came home, got changed and go to the funeral home.
I didn't realize I would be out as late as it turned out. I would have set the recorder up to record the "Biggest Loser Couples" final. I got home just in time to see the winner of the "Biggest Loser". I loved it...I have been pulling for Ali from the start. She was awesome. She lost 114 lbs. Her appearance was such a dramatic change. It has sounded for weeks like everyone thought Roger would be the biggest loser......or Mark.....not me, I felt it would be Ali...yeah, whoo hoooo..awesome job, Ali. I sure don't want to forget Kelly. She did a super job too. Truth is everyone did such a great job. They each and everyone should be so proud of their accomplishments. Losing weight is hard to do and several lost in excess of a hundred pounds. I know I need to lose some weight but not that much. It is hard to lose weight when you have some injuries. If they can lose what they did, I know I can lose twenty or thirty or so. Anyone want to lose a few pounds? How will you do it?
Has anyone else been keeping up with this season? Who were you picking to win? I think this has been the best season to date. Can't wait to see what next BL will be like.
Well, I'm heading to bed...tomorrow will be another long day. I go back to my surgeon for a follow-up. Then I'm going to Barnes & Noble. We have coupons...yippy....love b&n coupons.
Take care, and everyone stay safe......Pat April 06 movie weekendI feel like a whimp. I caught a cold from a two yr. old. It has been so long since I have had a cold. This one has kicked my butt. It has let me catch a little up on watching dvd's. Watched "The Bee Movie". It was so good.
I saw "Blades of Glory", funny but like most of Will Ferrell very strange. Verdict: I liked it.
I watched "Ghostrider" with Nicholas Cage.....it was like something I would have watched back in the '60's. I liked him in "Moonstruck" and "Peggy Sue Got Married" best.
There are many more dvd's I have in my collection I haven't had a chance to see. Just felt like watching a few.
I have the new "Sweeney Todd" movie. I want to see it this weekend if the cold meds don't knock me out again. As you might have guessed I am a movie nut. If it is something I like I will watch it numerous times.
This up coming week will be pretty busy. I have therapy Tues. and Thurs. We have to take my mom for a swallow test on Wed. She had a Dr. visit this past Wed. I discussed serveral things with him. I told him about her choking and having a hard time swallowing. She has complained for years about the swallowing but wouldn't discuss it. Anyway, he is sending her for the swallow test. The study will tell us what is going on and what can be done to help her. He doesn't want to give her anything for the pain in her hip. (she broke it back in '86) She has arthiritis really bad in both hips. Her heart is in afib again. At the dr. office it jumped for 84 to 104 and everything is inbetween in a matter of seconds. It looks like it will do this..go in and out
I ramble on and on once I get started. Sorry!!
I hope everyone is having a great weekend. My eyes are tired so I'm going to get off the computer.
Take care all....Pat
April 02 brother won truckI know I have mentioned my brother a few times now. I just thought I would talk about his big surprise first of the year. I had been looking for boots or some kinda shoe and went to Red Wing Shoes site. Well they had a contest called: Big Red Truck Sweepstakes. I entered and then sent him the link. Then he entered. All this was June of last year. And you could only enter one time.
He received a phone call in December informing him if he met all the qualifications, he was the grand prize winner...........
He met all the qualifications......they set it up with our local Chevrolet dealer. They had two Big Red Chevy Silverado crew cab's that he could choose from. Here he is picking up his (our) truck, I told him I feel like I have part ownership...
I had more photos but couldn't get them to copy. We picked up the truck in Jan. '08. He still is a happy camper. My brother, Charles is on the left. .......I love driving it. It drives better than anything else I have ever driven.
It is hard to believe these contests are real....but this made us all believers, at least, in the Red Wing Shoes contest.
It's nice to have a little good luck come this way.
The smile is still on his face. I haven't checked if it has been posted on RWS's site.
Time to get off here....I have PT in the mornin' and think I need to rest up...it will be a rough day. whine, whine
Take care.......Pat
March 30 what a weekI haven't written in a few days....been on the go and so on and so on....yada yada.
The 25th was my mom's birthday. She so enjoyed the day. It is funny in a way all the response from her friends and church members. First thing one must know about my mom is, she sends cards to any and everyone she knows. If she knows it's their birthday, wedding anniv., someone is under the weather, if they have a loss in their family, etc,. whatever it might be...she will send them a card and note. On many occasions, she calls them. She has gotten cards and calls and gifts for over a week. All this has made her a happy girl. It's true it does come back to you.
She wore her new dress to church today...I thought she looked very nice. As she was putting it on this morning, she said we spent too much for it...and that she didn't deserve it....ahhh...I told her she most certainly did....(Jan told her the same thing)..it's not everyday you turn 90 yrs old.
She gave us a fright Friday mornin'. She fell asleep with a piece of candy in her mouth....she began to choke..I jumped up and tried to dislodge it...unsuccessfully....I called out for my brother and he came flying in to the room. This time she was turning blue. He was able to dislodge it. She scared the daylights out of us. She has done this on other occasions, Charles has always been able to help her. Once they were eating out when a man close to them, began to choke..Charles did the hymick and saved him.
Lots of excitement this week...haven't like it all, as you might have gathered.
My knee has been giving me a fit. My therapist wants me to use a cane...which I have been doing, but my knee and leg are miserable.
not to mention my state of mind. I pulled out my brace just in case, it buckles on me again. I thought those days were behind me with the surgery. da not completely yet.
Ok, If feel better now, just needed to whine a little. I hope the upcoming week will be better for us all. Sunshine, birds singing, flowers blooming, good friends, good health and I win the lottery...
Love to all...Pat
March 25 Mom's 90th birthdayToday, March 25th, is my Mom's 90th birthday. She doesn't look 90.....She is a character. My brother and I are very lucky to still have her with us.
She wears jackets and skirts most of the time. We decided to get her a dress plus a few other items..but the dress was the main thing. She is funny..you couldn't get her in short sleeves for love or money. It has been really hard to find a long sleeve dress for spring. But we did it. We wanted her to have something really nice. I took a few pictures. She was so happy and surprised. The girls at the resturant sang "happy birthday" to her. Mom and Charles eat there almost every Sunday after church. So everyone that works there knows them. A good time was had by all.
It felt good to make her happy.
She is sumthung.
Just want to share. love you mom......
Take care all....Pat
March 23 Happy Easter mornin'It is a cool 39, but beautiful Easter mornin'. If I can get myself in gear, my brother sings in the church choir. They are preforming their contada time mornin', he wants me to come hear them. Gotta put on my Easter frock.....jeans and sweater.......
I hope everyone's Easter is happy and spent with your love ones. Take care all....Pat March 19 3/19 OS follow upToday was my first follow up with my OS. He explained to me what he found and what he did. First he took the stitches out. ooohh...ouch...Then he shows me pictures inside my knee. This was really quite interesting. I had torn medial menienus cartilage. Seems it was about a 2"X2" area of cartilage flapping around and tearing more with every move I made. Almost torn completely into. He said it was a good thing we did the surgery when we did...
He cut the flap away and drilled four or five holes in the subchondral bone.(knee bone)...this allows blood to leak out and eventually make kinka like scar tissue over the torn away cartilage. That's why my leg is a bloody mess.
I'll start physical theraphy within the next week. yeppy..it's
I know Angie was to see her OS today. I hope things went well. I'm really interested in hearing how it went. Drop me a line Angie or Jenny.
I'm goin' to get off the computer for awhile. I'm poor, ole knee hurts more tonight. It is screamin' "ICE me, ICE me, NOW".
I normally don't listen very well, if I am yelled at...but in this case.....you ain't kiddin' I'm listenin'.
I hope everyone is have a good week. It has rained almost all day. But tomorrow is suppose to be nice. I want to get out..my camera hasn't been used enough to wear the newness out.
Take care all...see ya later.
March 17 Grease is the wordI'm going to try to stay upbeat. I want to see "Horton Hears A Who"
I love movies..I think the only thing I can say I don't like are gore filled. I might try to watch "Sweeney Todd".
"Charmed" comes out on DVD tomorrow. I do love a love story...
I remember staying and working in N.C. back in the summer of '78. That was the year "Heaven Can Wait" and "Grease" came out. A group of us loaded up in one car, drove into Asheville on Friday and Sat. nights to watch movies. (I might add we consisted of late teens and early twentys). I think we saw "Grease" seven or eight times (at least) that summer together. One night we went to a drive-in. Anyone remember goin' to those? As I was saying, we drove to this drive-in to see a double feature.."Saturday Night Fever" and the other eludes me right now. We took pillows and blankets, three of us on the top of the car and four others on the hood. We had a blast. There is a photo of us out there somewhere. I'll see if I can track it down to show. Just not today. Sorry, I have to talk to an old friend to see if she can email it to me. yep still have friends from way back then.
We went another time to see "Grease" in the theater. The place was packed. The only place where there was six or seven seats together, was in the second roll from the screen. We had seen this movie enough to know every word. We knew the hand movements to "summer loving" and "hand jive" and we did them in unison. We hadn't planned it, it just happened. Everyone behind us was laughing and enjoying both shows. I had such a wonderful time that summer. That was nice to reminisce about it. Hope no one was too bored.
My girls, Wasbi, Maggie and little Bella, all go to the groomers Thursday. If they get ready in time I might take them to see the Easter Bunny at the mall. I don't know how that will work but I'd like to try...if I can get my brother to help me. He will, I just have to ask. I'll take my camera and take my own photo if I can. I do know the bunny. lol
Take care all. Hope everyone has a great week.
ooops almost forgot.... HAPPY SAINT PATRICK'S DAY......you all.
Pat
March 15 Cry Baby..meIt's been 8 days now. And I am still miserable. I guess I had been over doin' it. I had been up and out too much. Thursday I broke down and called my OS's office. I had been having Pain in my calf (for days) and unreal bruising below my knee. Then Thursday I had felt heat in the discolored areas. Looked up my symptoms on the internet.....kinda scared me into called his office. Anyway, they told me to go to the ER and have them do a doppler test. (sounds like bad weather, huh...lol) He wanted to rule out a blood clot. Let me tell you it Scared the geebez's out of me. Three and a half hrs. later I'm outta there....yeah do blood clot but have to watch out for infection. Told me to keep elevating and icing more. I thought I had been...guess not enough........So that's what I did yesterday.
My sweet babies wouldn't leave my side or let me out of their sight. All three either laid on me or beside me. Had one in my lap, one beside me and Bella on my chest. Animals are more inturn sometimes than people. I don't mean to go on and on and be a cry baby
My cous, Jan, has been great. She has fixed my ice packs and checked me....made me great meals......
I'll see my OS Wednesday. Follow up and take my stitches out. This knee stuff is all new to me (it su-ks)....have lot s of questions. for him..(need to write them down).
OK, I'm done being a cry bay today....lol Hopefully,
I don't want to forget wishing Angie a good day and a quick recovery.....Hang in there. Hey Jenny, give Angie an extra Hug
To everyone..I hope you have a fantastic weekend. To the photographers out there...hope your shutters keep clickin'. I love your photos. They always brighten my day and make me smile.
Take care all, Pat
March 08 the day afterHad the surgery yesterday...My OS said everything went good. He said I did have torn cartilage, something else was flapping around and I have a little Arthritis in it. He said he fixed everything. It was a relatively quick surgery. I was in and out of the OR in less than and hour. We were there about four hrs. I didn't feel too bad yesterday.....but today has been very uncomfortable. (pain, swelling, and some bleeding) and can't put much pressure on it. I'll be utilizing the crutches and ice packs.
I hope Jenny's friend, Angie, is doing better.
I'm going back to bed for awhile...so hope everyone has a good weekend. Take care all, Pat
oh got my new camera lens yesterday. I'll use it once my knee is well enough to get out and take some pics. March 07 "S" day ooohhhh noI'm up, showered, dressed...no coffee, tea, water, not even a morsal of anything.....This already su-ks. I don't wanta go.
It's like a five minute drive. We can wait til almost the last min. Let's see I have to be there at 7:15..we can leave at 7:10.
I always get sick...putting my order for nausea meds.
Jan just came in, she's taking me......I told her I didn't want to go.........being the wonderful, caring and compassionate person she is....she said she go for me.
Something tells me they'd know she's not me. Besides I won't do that to her.
Well gotta put my shoes on and away we'll go. X your figures.
Bye for now, Pat
March 06 Crepes anyoneGot home a short while ago, long day....very glad to be home. The best part of the day was ahhhhh..parisienne pancakes... Whole strawberries rolled up in 3 delicatedly thin Crepes. Sprinkled w/powdered sugar and topped w/whipped cream and more strawberries..... Ahhh yes, that's what I'm talkin' about. No body does it better. These are awesome. Did I make anyones mouth water? If any of you get to Gatlinburg, TN in the Great Smoky Mts. by all means go to the Pancake Pantry. I promise you won't be disappointed.
Well on that note I shall say my a do's, goodnights. I need to be up early....I see the sawbone at 7:15 a.m. Really starting to get nervous. I know everything will go ok....I'm just a worrier..can't help it.
Hey Jenny, I hope Angie's surgery goes well, too. . Give her my best. Hope she has a speedy recovery.
Take care all
Pat the sweet and sourTrying to get my mom and brother up and ready for a quick run to Gatlinburg. I have something I have to attend at two p.m. there today. I'd like to get there before eleven this mornin'. Why pray tell....Cause..... we can go to the Pancake Pantry. mmmmmm Best pancakes you could find anywhere. I'm doin' my best to light a fire under them...lets get goin' you guys. Someone might eat my pancakes (I like the crepes so technically not pancakes). I'M READY...come on,come on!!! I figure a little sweet today before the sour tomorrow. Couldn't hurt. right!! I have to be at the outpatient surgery facililty by 7:15 a.m. tomorrow. My cousin, Jan, is going to take me and bring me home. My mom and brother get too nervous, which in turn, raises my already high stress level even higher. I'll see them when it's all over and I'm back home. I have so many things to do before surgery...but here I'm heading to the mountains. lol That sounded kinda funny. Oh, well, gotta do what I gotta do. Hope everyone has a great day. Take care all. I'm outta here. mmmmmmmmm pancakes!!! Pat March 04 blah tuesdayWell, I saw my Orthopedist this mornin'. I've tried physical therapy since Dec., cortizone shot in the knee a couple of weeks ago and continued pt. with No major improvement. So he is going in with a scope and fix the problem....just not sure if it will be this friday or next. I first told them next week......but after thinkin' bout it, I'm just ready to get it over. I called my OS's nurse to see if she can change the surgical date... I'm waiting for her call back. I started this entry early this a.m., still haven't gotten a call back.. It's probably too late to change. Which means I have nine more days to think and worry.. It will be outpatient surgery...I'll be home by the evening. And it shouldn't take him very long to scope and fix. Xing my figures. I always have gotten sick afterwards....I think that worries me more than anything. Change the subject....we are under severe thunderstorm warning, and a tornado watch too. The wind has picked up in the last half hour or so. It has rained ALL day long....bummer....At least it's not Monday...cause rainy days and Mondays always get me down... Our area has been very lucky over the years. Only few hard hits with minor damage. East and northeast of us is looking at some extremely bad weather. Take care out there everyone......be thinking all those in harms way here and far away. Pat March 03 dog logA few evenings ago I had been out and came back home a few hours later. Before I am all the way in the door, My brother is telling me he got something away from my girls as quickly as he could. I start to ask what.....I see these black spots on my living room carpet. He continues to say that my mom had some liquid black shoe polish out and Maggie or Bella grabbed it. I was shocked and somewhat PO'd not at my puppies so much, but at two adults. First of all, why in the world would anyone have shoe polish in the living room. Secondly, why wasn't he watching them closer......they are only puppies and will get into any and everything if not watched. I got the portable carpet cleaner out...filled it several times and was able to get most up. My cousin told my brother to pick up some Spot Shot. Let me tell you that stuff works great. I would highly recommend this product. My cus is so smart. Thanks Jan!! Everyday the girls find things...sometimes it's stuff I had misplaced or couldn't find. This morning they both had gotten quite.....which got my attention.....they each had my mom's hair nets. They see me coming to them and drop the items. Now they are on their mornin' run thru the kitchen and living room. If they get too loud or too rough, Wasabi straightens them right out.....or she jumps in and plays with them. They each have been good for the other, not to mention me. I got the babies a few months after I had to put my 12 yr.old mini schnauzer, Mikey (Michelangelo), to sleep. That was the hardest thing I think I have ever had to do. I still miss him more than anyone knows. I had waited ten years to get him after losing my 10 yr old poodle, Puffer. Granted we had Wasabi but I felt I needed to make the move. So I did... we went to pick up one, but came home with two. I went after the runt in the litter, Bella (Bella Blue). They had her big sister, Maggie (Magnolia Bloosom). Instantly, fell in love with both. End of story. I know there will be many, many blog entries and pics about and of them....I could write something everyday..but I won't. Believe it or not this was only going to be a short entry.....lol..yeah right......I do tend to ramble on and on, once I get start. Need to get out and do a few things....It looks to be another beautiful day...I'll take the camera and hopefully be able to get some good shots. February 27 First picturesI got everything set up on my new camera today. I had hoped we would have had a nice snow fall, but the snow was a no go today/\.... I'm hoping the weatherman is right for tonight and tomorrows forcast. I took a few pictures, just to try it out. Deleted a few, didn't get the focus just right. Hey, I'm learning!!!! It will take me quite awhile to learn how to use everything on it. Think I'll get a copy of a cheat sheet. That should prove to be helpful. I'm experiencing a lot of first's here. First...blog, first slr camera, first pics I've ever shared in my blog........so many more first, too numerous to list.
I truly am enjoying this new adventure I'm undertaking. Just goes to prove what I've heard my whole life....."you're never too old to learn".....
Right now all I can think of a quote by Scarlet from "Gone With the Wind"......"fiddle de de I'll think about that tomorrow, cause, tomorrow is another day". On that note, i'm outa here.
Pat February 26 search is overwell, the search is over.......I bought the canon eos 30d at circuit city. Things fell thru on the Canon eos 40d. The online store was misleading and bogus. I won't say anymore about it. It only makes my blood boil all over again.
I'm pleased with the purchase I did make. I had been looking at this camera for a couple of months. I plan on taking lots and lots of pics very soon. Like tomorrow....it is snowing now
Had pt today.....and my knee isn't doing very good. The cortizone shot my OS put in last week, has me questioning if it has or will do any good. At any rate, I go back on the forth to see if it's any better or to schedule surgery.....
Time to look out the window and watch the snow fall before bed. I'll sleep good (i hope) after seeing that sight. When I was growing up the sight of snow at bedtime probably would have kept me awake. I'd be thinking about no school, being able to go play in it and even build a snowperson. Now i'm happier just to look at it, take photos of it and watch the neighborhood kids play in it. Excuses include: too cold, too wet, too slick, i hurt, it would hurt, i'll end up on my butt, (and although, it is padded way too much), I bruise way too easily. I could break something, which would mean a trip to the er......i hate hospitals. Besides, it is much easier to watch someone else fall flat on their padded cushion. I don't get cold, or wet, or slip around, it doesn't hurt me and i have no unsightly bruises. No broken bones and i can be watching tv, instead of spending hours in the er.
I was going to bed wasn't I.....hummmm......ok, here i go this time....really, i'm leaving...after i watch the snow fall gently to the ground.
nighty, night
